This list of kitchen gadgets has all the things I would recommend for a well stocked kitchen. I learned the art of bread making from the Tasahara Bread Book, which is probably out of print by now so I have never gotten into making bread in a machine. Just stir up some flour, honey and yeast in a bowl and you are good to go.
